Pat Metheny vs Kenny G
January 2, 2010 | 0 Comments
Kenny G gets a critical beatdown from Pat Metheny in this interview on jazzoasis.com. Yeah, Kenny deserves it, but he does have one massive soul weekender tune – 1982′s Hi How Ya Doin (Youtube link here) – whereas Pat doesn’t. On the same site, Wynton Marsalis gets dissed pretty bad by Keith Jarrett (here). Who ever said there was love between jazzers?
Best Reggae Lyric Of 2009?

If Holiday Inn had any balls they would use Terry Linen’s tune “Holiday Inn” in their next ad campaign.
“Rolling the hips, shaking the tits, bouncing, bouncing, bouncing.
How could I resist a lady like this? Bouncing, bouncing, bouncing.
She just drop it like it’s hot, inna Holiday Inn.”

I Can Transform Ya
December 19, 2009 | 0 Comments

There are some wicked new versions over the Chris Brown/Lil Wayne “I Can Transform Ya” instrumental (produced by Swizz Beatz). My favourite is the Gappy Ranks, although Assassin, Demarco (who voices a medley of his recent hits) and Mr Lexx all sound tuff.
GAPPY RANKS – “Nothing From Dem”
ASSASSIN – “Warning”
MR LEXX – “Watch Me Transform Ya”
DEMARCO – “Transformers Medley”
Just Blaze – MPC Master

UPDATE – POLICE SHUT DOWN! KILLED THE VIBES
I’m dusting off my sound system for carnival – a strictly vinyl session. I’ll be setting up in Kensal Rise outside Miro’s restaurant, 75 Chamberlayne Road (near the Chamberlayne pub). It’s on the outskirts of the carnival so it’s not too hectic. Come down if you’re in the area.
Big Up Gappy Ranks

Another Peckings production for Gappy Ranks sees the gappy-toothed one come with his biggest tune yet, “Heaven In Her Eyes”, over the Soul Rebel rhythm. Straight outta Brent in northwest London, Gappy Ranks has recently proven himself one of the UK’s hottest reggae artists, both as singer and deejay, with tracks like “Stinkin Rich”, “Mountain Top” and “Billionaire”. “Heaven In Her Eyes” is one of the best tunes of 2009, without a doubt. Big up Gappy Ranks!
Check Gappy’s myspace for downloads.
UPDATE>> Check Gappy’s new tune, “Rising Out Of The Ghetto” on YouTube. Baaaaad!

Roxy Heart Party
November 24, 2008 | 0 Comments
Just finished a six hour set at the Roxy Heart launch party in Biarritz, France. Heart is a new clothing line by Roxy (Quiksilver) and to celebrate the theme I selected a couple of hours worth of tunes with “heart” in the title to play as background music, before the dance got going.

I just finished the STARDUST mixtape for artist/designer Zakee Shariff, featuring tunes from Joni Mitchell, Brian Eno, Jill Scott, Minnie Riperton, John Lennon, Heatwave, and Lonnie Liston Smith. It’s the kind of mix you might hear in deep space and is good for hangovers. You can download a copy in the Mixtapes section…

Conscious Mixtape Series Vol 1: Serious Times
September 25, 2007 | 0 Comments

I finally finished the SERIOUS TIMES mixtape, which is a musical reaction to the state of the world, in particular to the politricks of Bush, Blair, and their cronies. It took a while, mainly because it was difficult to find seventy minutes of music that was relevant to the subject but also good enough for a mixtape – artists making music with any kind of political message are definitely in the minority! Xtra large big up then to the all the righteous artists featured on the mix, including Gyptian, Bob Dylan, Luciano, The Honeydrippers, Turbulence, Marvin Gaye, Bob Marley, Dennis Brown, Richie Spice and Sinead O’Connor. Available for download in the Mixtapes section…
