Busy Signal Inna Gary Mix Up

Vybz Kartel may have been 2009′s deejay of the year, but Busy Signal wasn’t far off, and judging by some of his recent tunes (You Never Knew and his three versions over Shane Brown’s re-lick of the Boops riddim), 2010 could be a Busy year. Right now though, he finds himself in a bizarre mix up.
In the chorus of his his version of the Phil Collins classic, “One More Night“, Busy Signal sings a line that, according to his management, goes “Baby give me one more night”, although sounds much more like “Gary give me one more night” – a slightly unfortunate situation for a dancehall artist. Personally I think it could be “Carey” (the name of his babymama) and that the autotune messed with his voice to make it sound like Gary, but whatever the words are, the story has caused a stir in Jamaica.
At Sting 2009, Andrew & Wada Blood (sons of reggae star Junior Reid) launched a surprise attack on Busy with their tune “Dem Wrong“, asking “how badman fe ah sing gay song?” and receiving a massive forward with a reference to Busy Signal’s hit “Unknown Number“:
The girl ah call, an him nah answer.
She still ah call, an him nah answer.
But mek mi tell you why him nah answer.
Him and Gary lock up in a Lancer.
Also at Sting, Twins of Twins joked about Gary in their tune “Mix Up“, asking how the tune ever ended up that way: “Who ah di producer? Who engineer it? Who mix di song deh? Who did prepare it? Mi waan know how some people hear baby, mi know sey mi hear it – Busy ah beg one more night from Gary”.
Busy hasn’t yet come forward with a counteraction, but at a point in his career where he’s so close to achieving mainstream success, he needs to tread carefully – and not be a hot-head. Believe me now. Bussssy.
